NSW Cup Knights hooker Danny Levi and man of the match recipient Honeti Tuhu spoke to Knights TV in the sheds following Sunday’s momentous NSW Cup premiership victory.
The premiership claim capped off a significant year for 19-yearold Levi who made his NRL debut in 2015.
After playing seven matches in first grade, he returned to lead the NSW Cup Knights around the park.
“It’s awesome, it’s been a pretty massive year,” Levi said.
Levi acknowledged the team's determination and drive in the 20-10 win over the Wyong Roos.
“For the boys to turn out a performance like that, it’s just an amazing feeling,” he said.
“I’m so happy for everyone who was involved.”
It was a spirited clash in the local derby grand final at Pirtek Stadium showing just how eager each team was to raise the prized trophy.
“We knew they were going to come out pretty fiery and I thought we let our discipline slip in a couple of moments,’ he said.
“When we went back in at half time we talked about that and we handled it really well and everyone in the team stepped up and put in a really good performance.
“I’m proud of the way the boys turned out today.
“We’ve had so many players injured and a lot of players have only just come in.
“To turn out a performance like that it’s really awesome."
There was an electric mood in the dressing sheds as the Knights celebrated the hard fought win.
“I can’t really describe it, all I can say is it’s a really amazing feeling. I’m super happy,” he said.
As winners of the NSW Cup grand final, the Knights now versus Ipswich in the State Championship played at ANZ Stadium, the curtain raiser to the NRL grand final.
“Tomorrow we’re back on the job and have one more hurdle to do,” he said.
“It will be a big week again.”
Meanwhile, fly winger Honeti Tuha stole the show with a hat-trick in Sunday’s decider.
Tuha has proved an unstoppable force on the Knights’ left edge with his speed and footwork and tested Wyong’s defence throughout the match.
The prospect of now playing before the grand final is incredibly exciting for the 22-year-old.
“I can’t wait for next week, I’ll be star struck to play before the NRL game,” he said.
“When is comes you have to take it with two hands.”
