Newcastle Knights hooker Danny Levi shed light on his extraordinary preparation for Saturday's match against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Hunter Stadium.

Named to play in NSW Cup, who were taking on Manly at Brookvale Oval on Saturday afternoon, the young hooker made a mad dash to get to Hunter Stadium after illness forced Adam Clydsdale out of the Old Boys Day clash.

"I got up this morning and traveled to Manly to play NSW Cup but about 40 minutes before we were about to warm up, I got a call to say I am going to play grade because (Adam) Clydsy was sick," Levi explains following Saturday's 20-18 defeat.

"So I jumped in a cab and came straight to the stadium from Brookvale Oval."

Levi wasn't deterred by the late call up, instead using the trip to focus on the job he had to do in the NRL clash.

"I was shocked, I obviously didn't expect it but I knew straight away I had to switch on and prepare myself to have a good game," he added.

While the result didn't go the way of the home side, it was certainly a great occasion in what was a milestone game for Kurt Gidley and Akuila Uate, as well as a celebration of the players departing the Club at season's end.

"We didn't get the win but it was a good effort," Levi added.

"Everyone was pumped and fired up... everyone showed up for each other.

"I want to congratulate all of the players departing the Club, I am happy to have been able to play with them to start off my career.

"The atmosphere was awesome... it is good to have all of the supporters backing us still."

The Knights now take on the Penrith Panthers at Pepper Stadium on Saturday afternoon to conclude the 2015 season.
