Skipper Kurt Gidley played his final game at Hunter Stadium on Saturday afternoon, which also coincided with Old Boys Day and his 250th NRL appearance.

While the team didn't quite get the win, Gidley was still thrilled with the effort as well as the show of support from red and blue fans.

"I got a bit emotional, and I always knew that would come after the game," Gidley told Knights TV.

"I was just so lucky and proud to have my 250th game at home, in front of fans, family and ex-players."

23,604 fans showed up for Gidley's swansong game at Hunter Stadium, and plenty stayed behind after the final whistle to congregate on the pitch and congratulate their captain.

"I'm blown away really by the support, all of the things through the week and there's been so much support that I'm really grateful for," he said.

"I thought in the second half we showed plenty of character to come back, unfortunately we just let it slip... but I couldn't be prouder of the guys."
