Newcastle Knights Dane Gagai and Tariq Sims have spoken about the side's preparation and plan as the red and blue narrow in on Monday night's match against a tough Melbourne Storm.

The long turnaround has aided players' recovery and preparation, with last week's win against the Wests Tigers also adding valuable confidence.

"We have a tough game ahead of us on Monday, but with our preparation this week, everyone has been enthusiastic at training and there's a bit more energy. Especially coming off the back of that win," Gagai said.

"But we know we have to go a step further playing against the Storm at home."

Sims agreed the opposition is one of the toughest in the competition, but assured the Knights are up for the test.

"Trying to beat Melbourne down in Melbourne is always a tough ask. At the moment they are starting to hit their straps at the right time," Sims said.

"I think it's going to be a good challenge for us and something I'm excited about, going down there and playing at AAMI Park."

As far as matching the Melbourne Storm's fierce attacking game, Sims said he and his teammates understand the roles they must play.

"We are all going to send a bit of traffic at them to blunt their attack a bit," he said.
