After containing the Gold Coast Titans to just two points on Saturday night, coach Rick Stone and captain Kurt Gidley have credited the Knights’ win at Hunter Stadium to a strong defensive effort.

The Knights secured a 30-2 win over their opponent in the Round 19 Men of League Heritage Round.

“There was some resolve, and some intent and desire in what we did defensively,” Stone said after the game.

“When you look at the last few weeks, we’ve leaked some points.

“To keep the opposition to two probably suggested that something went alright in the defensive side of things.

“We could have been a bit tidier in the back end of the game, we had a lot of possession and could have had a bit more patience with the footy.

“Overall, it’s good to get a win and we’ve been banged up a little bit for a while and haven’t played as well as we would have liked.

“Today just shows there’s plenty of spirit and desire in the club and we still want to something with our 2015 season.”

Gidley acknowledged it had been a tough few months but was pleased to enjoy the satisfaction of a hard fought win, especially at the Knights’ home ground during Heritage Round.

The Club’s captain immediately took the chance to thank the Knights’ Members and fans who supported the team on a cold and wet night at Hunter Stadium.

“It was a tough night conditions wise and it probably would have been easier to sit at home in front of the heater and watch it,” he said.

“Thanks to all our fans who came out and supported us and stuck around right until the end.

“It’s a good pat on the back for them."

Gidley touched on the defensive resolve showed by the home side as particularly pleasing.

“Defence was the most positive thing to come out of it from a team point of view,” he added.

While the Knights kept the opposition to two points, there were plenty of moments in the game when the Titans challenged the Knights’ defensive line.

“They had a few cracks at our line early in the game and every time we defended that, it just builds confidence,” he said.

“That’s been chipped away over the last couple of months.

“To keep them to two…and no tries let in, we’ll take plenty out of that.”
