Newcastle Knight Clint Newton has praised the effort of the Club's emerging talent and believes they're set to develop further under the watch of the team's experienced players.

While the Knights continue to search for a win, Newton believes the team remains upbeat and positive the table will soon turn.

"There are enough experienced people in the team to know that it's never as bad as it seems and you have to make sure that you keep working hard, train hard and play hard and never give up and you're a chance," he said on Thursday.

Meanwhile Newton says he has taken considerable pleasure from mentoring the Club's emerging players and observing them perform on the big stage of the NRL.

"I always knew what my purpose was when I was brought back here and  purpose was to try and help some of the young guys play first grade footy and get them prepared for the onslaught that they are going to have out there in the big time,” he said.

The 34-year-old NSW Cup captain stepped up to play with the NRL Knights against the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

"I think with the guys who played on the weekend, I was a bit like a proud father for some of them, especially with them coming into an environment at Suncorp behind with a team that probably hasn't been playing well,” he said.

"I thought the young guys really aimed up and that gave me a tremendous amount of satisfaction.

β€œFor me in my career, I probably get more satisfaction out of seeing other people's success than my own at the moment.

"Like anyone I want to play first grade footy and I think I'm doing enough and showed enough last week that I can still do it, but I understand that's not my call and all I can do is do my best and make sure that I'm ticking all the boxes away from training and at training to give myself the best opportunity to play.”
