Damian Sironen completed his first training session with the Newcastle Knights on Tuesday morning after joining the Club from the Tweed Heads Seagulls during the week.
"It was a good first hit out and I ran all the knots out from the weekend. I found my feet pretty quickly," he told the media after training.
The past week has been a whirlwind for the young forward who jumped at an offer from coach Rick Stone to join the Club.
"I came down for the opportunity. Where I was, I couldn't see myself going any further this year," he said.
"Stoney called me up and said there's a chance down here, so I packed my bags that night and was in the car and the next was day down here."
Sironen admits he had mixed emotions about departing the team he captained in the, the Tweed Heads Seagulls in the Intrust Super Cup, but is happy with his decision.
"I didn't like walking away from the boys at Tweed as we had a good thing going, but the opportunity to progress my career and go on to play NRL was an easy decision," he said.
"With the injuries they (Knights) have had and the way it goes, there's a really good opportunity to possibility to get a couple of games this year and moving on from there."
The second year apprentice carpenter joins the Knights' fulltime training squad and looks forward to taking his football to the next level.
While the 22-year-old holds aspirations of making his first grade debut with the Knights, he understands he must first prove himself in the Club's NSW Cup team, which starts this Sunday against the Manly Sea Eagles.
"I need to come down here and prove that I'm worth coming down and then we'll go from there," he said.
