In a thrilling series starter at ANZ Stadium, the NSW Origin side was defeated by Queensland 11-10 on Wednesday night.

Newcastle Knight Beau Scott crossed the line for a sensational Origin try in the 26th minute which pushed the Blues into the lead after an earlier try from winger Josh Morris locked the score at 6-6.

The NSW Blues went into the break with a four point buffer, 10-6. 

A Will Chambers try levelled the score in the 55th minute before the Maroons stole the lead when Cooper Cronk nailed a field goal in the 73rd minute. 

The Blues fought hard in the remaining seven minutes, but were unable to put points on the board.

Meanwhile, Newcastle Knights junior, Matt Croker captained the U16s NSW representative side in the precursor to the main State of Origin match at ANZ Stadium. 

While the score was locked 6-6 at half time, the young Queensland representative side clawed back in the second half to defeat NSW 10-6.
