After winning last weekend, the Newcastle Knights are intent on lifting the bar higher as they prepare to for Monday night’s clash against the Brisbane Broncos at Hunter Stadium.
“It’s all about not being happy with satisfactory and keep building,” halfback Tyrone Roberts said.
“It’s good to get a win and to get our confidence up a little bit."
After a stellar start to the season, the win against the Wests Tigers last weekend broke a five game losing streak.
“We have to back that up with another good performance and just have to rip in,” Roberts added.
“That’s what our fans want and what our team wants as well.
“We have to train and have a lot of things to still work on.
“It comes down to our attack. We had a lot of missed opportunities on the weekend which we have to work on during the week and hopefully come Monday night we will be ready to go.”
Not only had it been a tough few weeks for the team, but for Roberts personally, who opens up about how he had to rise above public scrutiny over his form.
“(Rick) Stoney and I have been talking for the last couple of weeks and he just said ‘mate hang in there’,” Roberts admitted.
“I showed on the weekend that his support paid off.
“Two weeks ago I was on a real low and my confidence was down.
“I was sort of questioning myself and that’s when I got to the stage when I had to fix myself before I could fix anything else.”
Instead, the 23-year-old channeled his energy into hard work and self-improvement.
“I just trained hard and did the extras, trained harder so when I came to the end of the week I knew I was prepared,” Roberts said.
“I don’t want to let anyone down, especially the fans.
“I have been through hard stages and good stages and that was one of the harder stages I had to go through.
“It was a bit disappointing and stuff like that, it hurts.
“I have been here for a long time and thought I had a bit more support.
“Because I’m Newcastle based, it’s the last thing I want to do is let Newcastle down."
