The NSW Cup Newcastle Knights achieved a hard fought 20-12 win over the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs 20-12 on Sunday.

The match, which was originally scheduled to be played at Newcastle's No. 2 Sportsground was moved to Morrie Breen Oval in Wyong after wet weather earlier in the week closed most of the region's sportsgrounds.

A double to Pat Mata'utia and a Danny Kerr penalty goal established the Knights' 12-6 lead in the first half.

The Knights continued their strong start when Chanel Mata'utia crossed the line early in the second stanza followed by a try to Honeti Tuhu in the corner after a great cut-out pass from Jake Mamo.

The Bulldogs returned fire with a converted try with 7 minutes to go, but could not fight their way back into the game.
