Despite a 22-6 loss to the Cronulla Sharks at Remondis Stadium on Friday night, the Newcastle Knights remain upbeat.
“We made plenty of chances, but it was probably the final pass or a bit of execution finishing them off that we missed out on,” captain Kurt Gidley explained after the match.
“It’s a disappointing one, but I suppose over the first six weeks 4-2 isn’t such a bad spot to be in, but it’s just disappointing to go back-to-back losses.’’
After starting the season with four wins, the second straight loss isn’t cause for alarm.
“It doesn’t knock my confidence around,” Gidley added.
“It’s just disappointing to go back-to-back losses.
“You want to be a consistent footy team, and the best teams only lose one here and there throughout the year.”
The coach said there was no excuses for their loss at Remondis Stadium.
"No excuses on our behalf tonight. The Sharks had a five-day turnaround, came nice and committed and handled the conditions a lot better than us," Rick Stone said.
"They made their own luck a little bit and got ahead of us and, with the conditions, it was hard to pull them back.
"I wasn't happy with our errors, but at least we asked a few questions."
Jarrod Mullen and Tariq Sims were the main injury concerns from the match. Both are suffering shoulder injuries and will be monitored this week.
The Knights return home in Round 7 to host the Parramatta Eels at Hunter Stadium.
