Newcastle continued their strongest start to an NRL season since 2006 when they conjured their third win.
The nail-biting 20-18 win over the Gold Coast Titans in Queensland follows season opening wins against the North Queensland Cowboys away and the New Zealand Warriors on home turf.
Skipper Kurt Gidley was elated the Knights had bagged their fifth win in a row, following on from victories in the last two games of the 2014 season at Hunter Stadium.
He puts the side’s good form down to consistency in the squad and a new-found steely determination.
"We've got most of the same guys here (from last year). We've got a couple of new fellas…but we've got the same group of guys who were playing at the back end of last year, when we were playing well,” Gidley said at the post match press conference.
"Last year was a tough year but when all the distractions and things were aside and finished with we were playing our best footy.
"We're not playing our best footy at the moment but we're never giving up on anything and that's pretty important.
"We've still got areas we can work on but the character and desire, we need to keep those, and the skill we need to work on."
The Knights hope to now carry the momentum of two defiant wins in Queensland into Saturday’s match at home against the Penrith Panthers at Hunter Stadium.
“I think it’s a massive effort and we spoke about that during the week,” Gidley said.
"We knew the opportunity we had this week to go three from three and to go home next week into an important game, second home game of the year, our fans would just love it.”
