The first day of the 2015 Auckland Nines competition saw a number of the Knights' young talents rise to the occasion.

One player who excelled with the fast paced style was Nathan Ross who sprinted to score a try in the corner in the first half of the second game against the Parramatta Eels.

“I had an unbelievable day,” Ross told Danny Buderus in the dressing sheds following the game.

“I take this pretty seriously as it’s the highest that I’ve played.

“I’m just trying to go out there and enjoy myself and learn off some of the senior players that have played a fair bit of NRL.

Ross, who was high on the point scoring ranks in last season’s NSW Cup competition, was adamant he’d cross the line in the lead up to the event.

“I saw Jakey (Mamo) get three in the first game and that made me pretty hungry to get one in the second,” he said.

“We are a young side and we are very hungry, we just want to push hard.

“Hopefully I’ll get a chance to bag a couple more and make the Nines fans proud and something to cheer about.

Ross is now eager to challenge the Manly Sea Eagles for the final pool game on Sunday, which, if won, will see them the Knights progress to the quarter-final.

Hopefully we can put on a string performance and show what we learnt from our loss in the dying minutes,” he added.

Hooker Adam Clydsdale has also lapped up the excitement of the tournament and considers the games a good chance to test his match fitness after a grueling pre-season.

“It’s a good change of style,” he said.

“I just see holes everywhere and a lot of space.”

The Knights take on the Manly Sea Eagles on Sunday at 9.35 (AEST).
