Australia and Samoa were defeated in their opening games of the Four Nations tournament on Saturday afternoon at Suncorp Stadium.

Newcastle Knights forward David Fa’alogo captained the Samoan side that was undone by England 32-26 in the tournament opener. Knights’ teammate Joey Leilua also played for Samoa in the centres.

Meanwhile, Beau Scott scored Australia’s first try against New Zealand with the side eventually defeated by the Kiwis 30-12. 18-year-old Knight Sione Mata’utia dropped off the Kangaroos' extended bench for the match.  

Toa Samoa are now set to face New Zealand on Saturday at Toll Stadium, Whangarei with Australia playing England at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Sunday.

New Zealand 30 (T: Kevin Proctor, Lewis Brown, Shaun Johnson, Dean Whare, Jason Nightingale, G: Shaun Johnson 5) defeated Australia 12 (T: Beau Scott, Greg Inglis, G:  Cameron Smith 2).
