Roberts and Sims share Kokoda experience

Returning from their week-long trek along the Kokoda Trail, young Newcastle Knights' players Korbin Sims and Tyrone Roberts spoke to Knights TV about their experience in Papua New Guinea.

Roberts said he was grateful for the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of his heroes.

“When we first arrived one of the diggers from the third battalion was there and it was a very emotional experience,” Roberts said.

“We will take a lot out of it and while we can’t compare what the diggers did for our country with playing rugby league, we can hopefully better ourselves on and off the field."

Sims said as tough as their trek was, their experience was nothing compared to that of the troops.

“We left at light and got back to camp during the day," Sims said.

“The troops had to fight through the night just to stay alive.

“We kind of got a feel for the terrain they had to walk but nothing like what they had to go through.”
