Old Boys Day to ignite Knights
Monday 2 September 2013 5:18 PM
The Newcastle Knights will play host to the Parramatta Eels on Sunday afternoon for their final home game of the season and in keeping with tradition will celebrate Old Boys Day.
Past and present Knights players will come together to celebrate the Club’s rich history as well as the Club’s most capped player Danny Buderus’ final game at Hunter Stadium.
The annual Old Boys Match is a special occasion on the Knights calendar, with former players recognised with a pre-match lap of honour before forming a guard of honour for the NRL side as they enter Hunter Stadium.
The pride and passion the current players have for the Club, has lifted the team over the years and the Knights have only been beaten three times on Old Boys Day since 1999.
“Over 24,000 Members and supporters turned up to Hunter Stadium last season to take part in the Old Boys Day celebrations,” CEO Matt Gidley said.
“Unfortunately on that occasion the result did not go our way and we need all the support we can get this Sunday to help the team secure a place in the 2013 finals series.”
The seventh-placed Knights will need to defeat the Parramatta Eels on Sunday afternoon to finish in the top eight.
